Getting ahead at the University of Magdeburg
The OVGU is a profile university. It strives for a sharply contoured and lean structure, which has a traditional focus on engineering and natural sciences as well as medicine, and sees economics, social sciences and humanities as indispensable disciplines for a modern university. The university comprises 9 faculties, the university administration, the rectorate and central institutions.
According to the mission statement of the OVGU, the primary task is to advance the state of education and science through teaching and research. In accordance with its name, the university feels committed to the person of Otto von Guericke. His name stands for the application of scientific methods, the pursuit of innovation and new knowledge, and the assumption of social responsibility for present and future generations.
Further education where science meets business
Magdeburg, has set itself the task of enabling the acquisition of knowledge and skills alongside work in an attractive location. The services of the ZWW are aimed at working people and individuals who would like to continue their scientific education, companies and institutions that are looking for suitable continuing education for their staff, and university lecturers at the OVGU who need support in the development and implementation of continuing education study programs.
The ZWW is located in Magdeburg's Port of Science. This up-and-coming urban quarter, which grew out of the former commercial port, is home to innovative companies and research institutions. With the "Alte Hafenmeisterei" (old harbor master's office), both providers and participants of scientific continuing education find a teaching and learning location directly on the Elbe, in wonderful natural surroundings, not far from the city center and its cultural assets.
